My name is Blair Sohl. Native San Antonio Texan, lifelong athlete and outdoors-man. When I returned from college, I needed a new passion. Fishing and eventually kayak fishing have become that passion. In the last 5 years I have explored some of the most beautiful spring fed rivers in Central Texas and would love to provide others with the same opportunity.
The guides for HCKC have floated on many miles of the Medina,Guadalupe, Llano, San Marcos, Blanco, Pedernales, Sabinal, and Frio
We provide conventional and fly fishing lessons for anyone looking into learning how to fish.
We provide all types of fishing including conventional, fly, bow, and even spear fishing for invasive species.
If you're not into fishing that is alright. We provide bird watching, photography, and snorkeling tour of some of the best hidden gems in TX for a discounted rate.
We also provide a cabin stay for a 1/2-multi day trip on Medina Lake.
For Beginners we provide a shorter day trips which can be 2-4 hours to get you acquainted with the adventures and rigors you face during kayaking and to provide a safe environment for you to learn in.
More Experienced kayakers can partake in full day trips which range between 5-8 hours.
Multi Day Trips will always be custom fit for the individuals wishing to go.
We exclusively use Diablo Amigo kayaks for our small group tours. They are a local company right out of San Marcos TX and are made here in the US. They have the best stability of any kayak I have ever used. Most importantly that means safety for you. They have a 400lbs carrying capacity and can store and full length rods in the hull. All while floating in less than 5 inches of water. You can also bring your dog they are so stable!
Rates:

We can do 4-6 people on the river but that would have to be a custom river trip to accommodate that many kayaks.
The rate includes kayak, seats, ice chest, (1)rod and reel, tackle, dry bag, breakfast, lunch, water, snacks.
Fishing Lessons on private water:
$150/ hr gear included
Rivers can be very enjoyable but can also be very dangerous bodies of water. They are always changing due to many factors such as time of year, weather, water levels and other unforeseeable factors. We require a PAR-Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire) as well as a general activity questionnaire. That is to judge where everyone's ability level is at in your party so we can make sure to put you in a position to have fun and not in danger.
If the PARQ comes back with any 'Yes' answers, you may need to get a doctors note before arranging to go on any river trip. That is why I want you to reach out to me personally.
During these river trips you may encounter snakes, spiders, and a wide range of insects and animals. There are also rapids which go from Class 1 (easy) to very difficult depending on water levels. Making sure everyone in your party are able to traverse natural and man made obstacles is a big factor in finding a river trip suitable for your party.
Hill Country Kayak Charters is focused on maintaining and improving our hill country ecosystems by only practicing catch and release with our native species. Our goal is to leave the rivers better than we found them by removing trash and litter, we would like for you to help us with that goal to preserve the beautiful waterways for generations to come.
